Home Decor Inspired By Pantone Colour of the Year: Classic Blue

It’s the start of a new year, a new decade and, for many of us, the time for a refresh. And that refresh often begins in the home. Revitalising your living space can give you a real boost and help to beat the slump that we often feel at the beginning of the year.

And to help with your New Year refresh comes the Pantone Colour of The Year which, for 2020, is Classic Blue. Described as a shade “reminiscent of the sky at dusk” which gives a calming effect, this deep blue exudes reassurance and confidence.

On how the Colour of the Year is chosen, Pantone explained how they take into consideration a wide variety of lifestyle and industry trends, as the colour often reflects bigger macro trends that appear across all aspects of culture.

Colour is influenced by art, film and media, lifestyle, socioeconomic and political conditions, travel, technology and more, so the Pantone Color Institute look to all of these areas when choosing the new colour of the year.

Classic Blue in exterior design

If you want to create a bright and inviting entrance to your home, or if you want to continue the colour story from the interior of your home to the outside (more on interiors later), a coloured front door is the perfect way to do so.

Classic Blue in interior design

When adding rich colours like Classic Blue to your interiors, find a balance by deciding how bold you want to go.

While it may feel like a dramatic overhaul of your interiors, painting the walls in your living room a deep blue can create a peaceful and cosy atmosphere. And when coupled with light coloured furniture, blue walls can effectively draw attention to other features in the room. For example a white fireplace would work beautifully as a centrepiece in a room with Classic Blue walls.

Alternatively, you may choose to use the rich shade to add accents of colour and depth to a more neutral space. Again, you may choose to go bold by adding large pieces such as a blue toned sofa, chair or even a table. Or you may want to use smaller accessories such as vases, cushions and throws or in artwork to liven up a room in a more subtle way.
